Heart Breathing

When one sits quietly, one becomes mindful.
Mindful of breathing. Mindful of thoughts.
Mindful of feelings and emotion.

At some point, one is just sitting.
Awake. Aware.

One's "self" has disappeared.
One's heart is wide open.
All falls away. Forgiving. Releasing.

A gentle smile appears.

This is prayer. This is praying.
When the "inside" and the "outside" become as one.

Breathe in the loving energies
of the Breath that breathes you.
Breathe out the Love to all around you.

When breathing in, the heart relaxes, expands, opens.
When breathing out from the heart, the heart smiles.

Breathing in, heart relaxing.
Breathing out, heart smiling.

Breathing in, heart opening.
Breathing out, heart smiling.

Calm gentle breathing.
Heart breathing.

  2. Hi George,
I love your description. I will carry it into this weekend's silent retreat as a kick off for my practice.

  3. This is a very good description, George. What I particularly like are your words on breathing out.

There are some schools that instruct you to breathe in the "loving energies" of which you speak, and to breathe out any evils and discomforts so you are rid of them. However, I find the result is my mind shifting back and forth between good things and not-so-good things. In time, I had come around to your style of breathing ...

"Breathe out the Love to all around you ...
When breathing out from the heart, the heart smiles."

    Well put, George. Amen.
