"You, O so-and-so, are the effect of your cause" -- Ibn 'Arabi

Those words make my heart laugh at the vision of the circularity of ourselves. If I am the effect of my cause, I had better know what my cause is. And I do not mean how I was created or came into being. I mean my cause, that which I champion and campaign for.

For example, if my cause is to justify myself in my own eyes and in the eyes of others, then I am the effects of my eternal self-justifying, spinning in a sacrificial loop, and that which is sacrificed is my life.

If my cause is the opening of awareness to the knowing of the Wellspring of my being, then I am the effects of this awareness and this knowing, living with contentment, well-being, and happiness, yes, even joy, in an eternal relational loop, a friend of God. The effect of my cause is met and uplifted, soaring on a spiraling updraft into ever-greater intimacy and disclosure.

"You, O so-and-so, are the effect of your cause."
