the current of the cosmos

The cosmos is born of one Spirit, is one Spirit, and is moving toward one Spirit. Those of us in the space-time dimension of earthly everydayness are being carried right along with it. (Out of all the theologies, process theology recognizes this. So does the work of Teilhard de Chardin.) And we are not just helpless fragments caught in the current (unless we frag ourselves). We are the current.

There are those who are fearful and screaming and yelling and footdragging and sabotaging as much as possible, wanting things to stay the same on earth with clear division lines, meaning that they and their kin stay in ascendancy and keep others beneath their feet. If "love" is to be made, then it will be made only in the missionary position, with others on the bottom.

Mister Awake was right when he said (and I paraphrase) that three ingredients clog the artery of the cosmic current: hostility, greed, and stupor. What allows current flow is lovingkindness, generosity, and radiant awareness.

If wide awake lovingkindness is the order of the day, what does one do with the smug and hating stuporous? Jesus was not diverted. Gandhi was not diverted. Teresa of Avila was not diverted. Martin Luther King was not diverted. Arjuna was diverted only for an instant, then rose up, and kept on rolling. Marguerite Porete was not diverted. A whole host of unnamed folk across the centuries and cultures were not and are diverted.

What does one do? Let the dead bury the dead and keep on trucking!

  1. Bellylaugh, to be greeted by Mr. Natural on a cloudy Sunday morning. If only it felt natural to love the stuporous in myself. But I keep on keepin' on.

  3. Hey George, I had this thought during yoga this afternoon that is a little related to the above.

What goes with loving kindness, generosity and radiant awareness?

One of God's greatest gifts to mankind, laughter.

When we laugh from the heart,God laughs.

When we are angry, etc., God just watches, but laughter that is one of the great routes to God.

  4. LG's comment reminded me of a Ghandi quote -- (I'm paraphrasing here) -- we are not punished for our anger ... we are punished by our anger.

Joyous laughter, on the other hand, brings us remarkably close to God.
