spiritual drive-bys

I saw yet another person today in suit and tie going to people's homes to convince them their thought process and thought system is wrong and his is right. Seems as if that is an occupational hazard of professional religionists. It must be pretty wearing to think you have THE TRUTH and others don't, though I surmise that most every one of us feels that way, but are too courteous to mention it.

I think God, our Source, is quite benign about it myself; it being where we will spend eternity. There is only one place and that is the Wellspring from which we sprung and even now are springing. But that's the truth I know and I don't really want to get all spruced up and hunt you down in your lair to beat you over the head with it, like some kind of spiritual drive-by. Next thing I know your posse would be swinging by my place and slinging some spiritual ammo my way. No one listening to anyone, just spouting and shouting.

I guess we could go visiting those suit and tie visitors in our flip flops and shorts and let them know our truth, since they have already fired the first shot. Nahhh... Too much trouble and more than a little sardonic.

I guess we better leave well enough alone and just keep being courteous to each other.

  1. That reminds me of an old friend, who, at the age of 22, became a Sikh. After donning a turban and wearing white clothes, he finally began wearing a sword, which he explaned was symbolic of his willingness to defend any person's right to worship, or not worship, as they wished. He said he hoped he would never need to use it, and he was certainly not out to convert anyone to anything, including his way of living life. I was awestruck, at age 18, to experience a such a different interpretation of spirituality. I agree, G, better to leave well enough alone!

  2. Thanks T, a lovely comment -- befitting of the soul you are. I'm still picking up and reading from time to time that lovely book you gave me years ago -- Abandonment to Divine Providence.
    Love!

  3. Is there such a thing as blasphemy in your vocabulary or conceptional framework? It's one thing to commit spiritual drivebys. Is it another to proffer an audiobook or a religious book to someone? I was once offered The book of Mormon. After reading the preface, I returned it. I didn't know what blasphemy was until I had read that book's preface. I suppose that it just seemed wrong that God would hide his Word from anyone. As you say, the Source is inclusive, but most religions are exclusive.

  4. Maybe one good service those guys in suits do is just get some people to think about the spirit and our source. Too many folks just go about their lives in their self made cacoons. Though, I would rather take George's approach, just be and maybe my be-ness rubs off. Littlegeezer

  6. John, to me blasphemy is in the eye and ear of the beholder / hearer. I think the Source just keeps right on Sourcing with no offense. It's the humans that get all riled up.

Blasphemy, in my view, is most likely to take place (both offense given and offense received) in the dualistic arena (right - wrong, good - bad, us - them, etc.) of human consciousness than in the nondual. The Tao taos, God keeps godding, the Source keeps sourcing no matter what we do or say.

When we dwell in nondual consciousness, we dwell with the eternal and human talk is seen as either aligned with the eternal, the nondual, or not. Thus talk is either aligned or unaligned, rather than blasphemous or not.

Blasphemy seems to be a human word assigned to any action that is perceived to insult that human's personal or cultural view of a personal / cultural god.

  7. Kathy, you have good reason to have that thought from what I know of your earlier life. I know that you have the feeling (and thus really mean it) but not the desire for that kind of action (and thus do not really mean it). Love to you.

  8. Littlegeezer, I appreciate your "makes us stop and think" thought. Makes good sense, Bubba!

  9. True. When I widen my view and look at the planet as a whole, most of humanity and its concepts appear small and insignificant. So, anything blasphemous is infinitely trivial by comparison and essentially beyond notice.
