comments

A cyberfriend, whose blogs I respect and learn from, emailed and asked why I have blocked comments on my blog. I share my answer here with all.

I have realized that I am in broadcast mode and have been for some time. Ideas and understandings arrive unexpectedly and frequently, only some of which I post here.

The usual blogging mode appears to be to present only one post a day or a week, allowing folk time to respond at their leisure, thus generating several comments which take the form of a conversation about what the blog said and comments about the comments. That is hard to do when the blogger (myself) has already posted 2, 3, 4 more postings and is way on down the road. Folk like to respond to the latest, the freshest, not some dried up work several hours old, which is now several layers down in the queue.

All this to say: I am not "internetty," as Charlie Huston, one of the best noir writers in the business, says on his blog.

Ideas are bursting their britches and must be written while they are hot or they tend to dissipate, evaporate. So I write them and let them go. Broadcast them and move on.

All who wish are welcome to email me. You can see the address over there to the right beneath my name. Though I am a curmudgeon living a semi-hermit existence at the base of this sleeping volcano, the peaks so sacred to the Navaho, the Hopi, and many others of us, I like to hear from folk and may even respond.
