I hate, yes HATE, our society's emphasis on money, rather than lovingkindness, and what that emphasis does to people and to our spirituality. We may as well change Psalm 23 to read:
Money is my shepherd; I shall always be wanting.
It makes me lie down in its green dreams.
It leads me beside stagnant waters. It sends sores to my soul.
Money leads me in the paths of anxiety and despair for its name's sake. Yea, I make myself walk through the valley of the shadow of death for worry of money.
I will fear no evil: as long as my Money God is with me.
When you are not here, thy rod and thy staff they beat me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of the moneyless,
and I eat plentifully while they starve.
Thou anointest my head with blindness; my cup of dissatisfaction runneth over.
Surely anxiety and worry shall follow me all the days of my life:
as I chase after Money for ever.
Whatever we PAY the most attention to is our God.
Whatever we GIVE attention to is our Salvation.

From the old Whole Earth Catalog, "Libraries will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no libraries."
