a comedy of errors: homo bozo
"Believing that they possess consciousness, men have not exerted themselves very much to acquire it; and things haven't changed very much in this respect. To this day the task of incorporating knowledge and making it instinctive is only beginning to dawn on the human eye and is not yet clearly discernible; it is a task that is seen only by those who have comprehended that so far we have incorporated only our errors and that all our consciousness relates to errors." -- Nietzsche

Dear George,
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure Nietzsche is right. I sure hope he's wrong, for he is practically implying that we will be an evolutionary dead end if we are not careful. After all, Bozo's weapons are humor, not nuclear weapons. Only a true bozo would blast himself and the human race into oblivion, but that's more madness than stupidity.

I agree with Nietsche that we are at the beginning of incorporating knowledge. In-corp-orate means to embody. Rather than embodying awareness, most folk in my experience are running around in their heads and emotions and are conscious intermittently, if at all.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with him that most, if not all, our consciousness relates to errors. I see and hear the "insides" of people, a mixed blessing. Many focus a great deal of energy on errors they (and others) have made. They do not seem to know how to get out of them, maybe do not even want to at some level. Error maintenance seems to be equivalent to consciousness.
The "task of incorporating knowledge and making it instinctive" so that we respond automatically and instinctively with knowledge and with wisdom (a further step) has only just begun.
A revamp of the educational system and the family is needed then. What is considered "normal" needs to be redefined.
ReplyDeleteMy current understanding is that this transformation in consciousness has to come from that-which-breathes-us. Yes, which reverberates through the educational system and the family.
