Aim: To teach elders (and all other interested folk) cane fighting techniques as a method of exercise, empowerment, and for just plain fun.
Let's see -- there are certain things I have to do to get Raising Cane on the ground.
Stuff to do:
- Complete application packet for Flagstaff Parks and Recreation
- Get fingerprinted and have background check done by Police Department
- Turn in completed application packet
- Upon approval set dates and times for Raising Cane gatherings
- Find inexpensive source of canes for folk who have none
- Advertise
- Talk with my martial arts buddies to see if they want to do part of a class from time to time and give us some cane tips -- raise some cane together!
Do you really use canes, or sticks (jo)?

Canes -- that is what elders have. An intent is for cane walkers to feel empowered with their canes and for non-cane walkers to get one and have some fun.
ReplyDeleteGeorge...may I suggest sessions on hurry-canes, candy-striped canes, able-canes, cane-poles (for fly-fishermen), and a finale session on how we cane all just get along?
ReplyDeleteTroutbum
Troutbum, I love it! I hope you can come play.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool! when we were in Santa Fe (a couple of years ago)down by the church at the end of plaza they have a nickle & dine store that sells beautifully painted canes...i bought me one...you know for the future...actually it made me feel safe walking around that plaza at night with a cane. you can use that hook part and trip someone who is trying to attack and then run and get away. The cane is so pretty...painted with birds and trees, hand carved. if my memory is right it was about 5 bucks.
ReplyDeletesounds like fun! i love your post title! ;-D
*nickle and dime* where the souvenir stuff is.
ReplyDeletecheck thrift stores for canes.
ReplyDeletehave fun! wish i was there to join in all this good stuff.
have have a fun day, (know you will)
