(In which I expound through using the teachings
of a 13th century theologian and mystic
upon the human tendency
to ignore large parts of the universe
while focusing upon immediate need)
Brad and I talked about this
-we live as body
-we live as mind-spirit
-we live as divine
at Late For The Train
sitting by the door
people kept leaving open
and he kept shutting
from the cold morning air.
Folk staggering in for coffee
not shutting the door behind them
were body zombies
at the moment
though my mind-spirit
began to think undivine.
Body by itself focuses on external,
evidently in front of one's nose
and not behind one's butt.
Mind-spirit alone floats all over,
its hard-drive reconstructing
the same old self.
Some want to bypass both
jump right to the divine
but it doesn't work that way.
In recalling past lives
everybody claims royalty
ain't nobody no slave
Brad pointed out
closing the door yet again.
By the bye
don't want to make your eyes glaze over
but this trio view comes from
Bonaventure, The Soul's Journey Into God,
and his first chapter
On the Stages of the Ascent into God
and on Contemplating Him
Through His Vestiges in the Universe.
There are six chapters after that
but that's enough for now.
Please shut the door.
The world behind your holy sacred butt does exist.
May your three move as one.

Funny how closing a door can be spiritual practice. Everything is metaphor, indeed. And I can't think of a more delightful way to spend a morning than yakking with you and closing doors.
