seeing into the nature of things

"By being in accord with things we can see into their nature." --Tao-an (312-385)

When we move in accord we shape-shift. We take on the "shape" of the other while remaining ourselves. This is a natural process, not ego-driven. You cannot be in accord and be full of yourself.

If you are in accord with another person you can see into that person's nature. This is also true of trees, animals, the universe.

Let us call it listening. When we listen to a tree, we know the tree. The tree discloses itself, tells us its experiences, its awareness. The same with a mountain and a river, the ocean, the moon and the sun. The same when we listen to the Wellspring, to the Emerging.

Restlessness and listening are not partners. To listen one must be still. No projection. When one is still, one can be in accord. When in accord, one sees into the nature of things.

  1. Thank you, George. Can other creatures on earth do this, too? Or does it take a human consciousness to become the other? --Steve

  2. Hi Steve. Across "species" there is a range of sensitivity, and within species there are more gifted individuals. For example, I have met coyotes in the desert who extended their consciousness into mine. I have met others who were caught in their own restlessness. I have found this also true of many other creatures across a range of species.
